Derek Fitzhenry

An assistant head football coach as well as strength and conditioning coordinator for the North Shore High School varsity football team, Derek Fitzhenry builds on an accomplished coaching career. He stands out as former athletic director and head football coach for the Giddings Independent School District, where he set a number of records, including highest winning percentage and first top 10 finish. Derek Fitzhenry also led his Giddings team to first-place finish in central Texas for the Lone Star Cup competition, which goes to the program that reaches the most championships. Derek Fitzhenry brought Giddings athletes to a total of 21 football championships, including the bi-district championship in 2003 and 2010 and the area finals in 2009. He secured 13 district championships out of a total of 14 eligible sports and brought the overall athletic program to sixth-place Lone Star Cup finishes on three distinct occasions. Derek Fitzhenry joined the Giddings faculty in 2003, following a successful tenure at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas. This highly respected program has earned national renown through the film and television program Friday Night Lights. In total, he has built more than 25 years of experience in coaching, education, and program leadership.
